happy birthday to me?
so today is my birthday. one of the dumb ones. i’m not feeling too hot or accomplished about it. by my age, Joan of Arc had already inspired a Carl Th. Dreyer film… and been dead for 8 years. orson welles had already made Citizen Kane, and then eaten most of the extras.
anyway, enough with the doom and gloom. i haven’t applied much thought to it, but methinks Ikiru may be among the most birthday-appropriate Criterion films there is. but the scene i’m comforted by today isn’t the one in which Watanabe is symbolically reborn, but rather this one. because, ya know… bunny.
